There’s nothing quite like a homemade treat to spread joy, and this Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread is no exception. Today, I’m thrilled to share this recipe as part of a fantastic holiday event: Bake Craft Sew, hosted by Leigh Ann over at Your Homebased Mom. All throughout November, Leigh Ann has been curating a collection of incredible edible gifts. Alongside her, Mique from Thirty Handmade Days has been inspiring us with all things crafting, while Cindy of Skip to My Lou has been sharing a month’s worth of brilliant sewing ideas. It’s an absolute treasure trove of holiday inspiration, encouraging everyone to get creative for the festive season!

While my talents predominantly lie in the kitchen, specifically with creating delicious edible gifts, I’m genuinely excited to explore some of the craft and sewing projects shared by my fellow co-hosts. I confess, I’m not the most skilled crafter, but the festive spirit of the holidays often ignites a desire to try something new, and these collaborative events provide the perfect nudge. It’s a wonderful opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and perhaps discover a hidden talent. Who knows, maybe this year I’ll venture beyond the oven and into a new creative pursuit, all thanks to the inspiration from this amazing community event!

Why Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread is the Perfect Holiday Gift

I’m incredibly honored to be a part of this special event, and my Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread truly stands out as an exceptional gift choice for this time of year. There’s an undeniable warmth and personal touch that comes with homemade treats, making them cherished presents for teachers, friends, neighbors, and even colleagues. This recipe is wonderfully versatile; you can bake it in standard loaf pans for a generous gift, or opt for mini loaves that are ideal for sharing among several recipients, creating thoughtful individual tokens of appreciation. The effort and care put into a homemade gift resonate deeply, showing your loved ones how much you truly value them.

Imagine arriving at a holiday gathering with a beautifully wrapped loaf of this bread – it makes for an absolutely stellar hostess gift! It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, offering a comforting flavor profile that evokes the essence of the season. The inviting aroma alone will make it clear that this gift was made with love and care, instantly setting it apart from store-bought alternatives. Plus, the convenience of a quick bread means you can whip up multiple loaves without spending all day in the kitchen, leaving you more time to enjoy the festivities and create lasting memories. It’s a delicious way to bring cheer and warmth to any holiday occasion.

The Irresistible Charm of Quick Breads

There’s a special place in my heart for quick breads, and this Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread perfectly exemplifies why. Their charm lies in their simplicity and speed – no yeast, no extensive kneading, and no long proofing times. You simply mix the ingredients, pour the batter, and bake, and in under an hour, you have a delicious, fragrant loaf ready to enjoy. This makes them perfect for impromptu baking sessions, busy weeknights when you crave something sweet, or when you need a comforting treat without the fuss. Whether it’s for a cozy breakfast, a mid-afternoon pick-me-up with a cup of tea, or a simple dessert after dinner, quick breads always hit the spot with their comforting, homespun goodness. Just like this delightful recipe, other favorites like Sour Cream Banana Bread prove that these humble loaves can deliver incredible flavor and satisfaction with minimal effort.

The beauty of quick breads is also in their flexibility. They are often quite forgiving with ingredients and can be easily customized with various add-ins, making them a fantastic canvas for culinary creativity. From different types of chocolate chips to chopped nuts, dried fruits, or additional spices, the possibilities are endless. The dense yet tender crumb, coupled with a perfectly crisp and golden crust, creates a texture that is both comforting and deeply satisfying. Once you discover the ease and deliciousness of quick breads, they’ll quickly become a staple in your baking repertoire, offering a simple and reliable way to bring homemade warmth and flavor into your home and share with those you love.

A Symphony of Flavors: Cinnamon, Chocolate, and a Decadent Glaze

This Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread truly shines when it’s enjoyed warm, fresh from the oven. The gentle heat beautifully melts the chocolate chips within, creating luscious pockets of gooey, rich deliciousness that perfectly complement the spicy, aromatic warmth of cinnamon. Each bite is a delightful combination of sweet, subtly savory, and utterly comforting flavors, making it an instant favorite for anyone who tries it. The aroma alone is enough to draw everyone to the kitchen, promising a treat that’s both nostalgic and incredibly satisfying.

While some might consider the chocolate glaze optional, I wholeheartedly believe it’s a non-negotiable indulgence that truly completes this bread! When in my life is chocolate glaze ever truly optional? It adds an exquisite extra layer of decadence, a silky smooth and shiny finish that elevates the bread from simply delicious to truly extraordinary. The glaze provides not only a beautiful visual appeal but also an additional burst of chocolatey goodness that perfectly rounds out the cinnamon notes, creating a balanced and utterly irresistible flavor profile. It’s the crowning glory of this already spectacular quick bread, adding that final touch of gourmet perfection.

One of my favorite baking hacks, especially during busy times, is to make a couple of these loaves at once. Enjoy one immediately, savoring its fresh-baked perfection, and wrap the other tightly to put in the freezer. This smart trick ensures you’re always prepared for unexpected guests or simply a moment when you crave a comforting homemade treat without any last-minute effort. A frozen loaf thaws beautifully and can be gently warmed for that fresh-from-the-oven experience, making it perfect to serve with a morning cup of coffee or a soothing mug of tea on a chilly afternoon. The robust, fragrant cinnamon flavor, in particular, just screams for colder weather, making this bread a quintessential fall and winter staple. It’s the kind of bake that wraps you in a warm, comforting hug, making everything feel a little cozier and more festive, whether you’re sharing it or enjoying a quiet moment alone.

Ingredients

Bread

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 whole large egg
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Glaze

  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon milk

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 C). Prepare an 8×4 inch loaf pan by generously coating it with nonstick cooking spray, or for easier removal, line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the longer sides. This ensures a clean release and a perfectly shaped loaf.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, baking soda, a pinch of salt, the fragrant ground cinnamon, and the delightful mini chocolate chips. Whisk them together thoroughly to ensure all the ingredients are evenly distributed, especially the cinnamon and chocolate chips, preventing any clumping in the final bake. Set this well-combined dry mixture aside.
  • In a separate medium-sized bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: granulated sugar, light brown sugar (which adds a lovely molasses note and extra moisture), one whole large egg, canola oil, rich buttermilk, and aromatic vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and thoroughly combined, ensuring the sugars are mostly dissolved to prevent a grainy texture.
  • Gently pour the wet ingredient mixture into the large bowl containing the dry flour mixture. Mix them together using a spoon or spatula until they are just combined. Be careful not to overmix; overmixing can overdevelop the gluten in the flour, which will lead to a tough and dense bread. A few small lumps in the batter are perfectly fine and even desirable for a tender, moist quick bread.
  • Pour the prepared batter evenly into your greased (or parchment-lined) loaf pan. Smooth the top slightly with your spatula. Transfer the pan to the preheated oven and bake for approximately 45-50 minutes. Baking times can vary depending on your oven, so it’s always good to keep an eye on it towards the end.
  • To check for doneness, insert a wooden skewer or toothpick into the center of the loaf. If it comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached, the bread is ready. Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. This crucial resting period allows the bread to set and makes it much easier to remove from the pan without breaking. After 10 minutes, carefully invert the loaf onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • While the bread cools, prepare the luscious chocolate glaze. In a small microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt together the semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter. Stir continuously until the mixture is completely smooth and glossy. Once melted, mix in the powdered sugar, then gradually add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you achieve a smooth, pourable consistency that’s neither too thick nor too runny for drizzling.
  • Once the Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bread has completely cooled on the wire rack (this is important, as glazing a warm loaf will cause the glaze to melt off), generously drizzle the prepared chocolate glaze over the top. Allow the glaze to set slightly for about 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving. This ensures the glaze adheres beautifully and creates a lovely, delicious finish.
