assorted toppings such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and pickles
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9 inch deep dish pie pan or regular 10 inch pie pan with cooking spray.
Place a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the bacon and cook until crisp, 4-5 minutes.
Remove the bacon from the pan and place on a paper towel. Drain all but 1 teaspoon of bacon grease from the pan.
Add the ground beef and onion to the pan. Cook for 6-7 minutes, breaking up the beef with a spatula.
Stir in the salt, pepper and garlic powder and cook for 1 more minute.
Add 2/3 of the bacon back to the pan, reserving the remaining bacon for garnish.
Place the meat mixture in the pie plate. Sprinkle the cheese over the top.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick, milk and eggs. Pour the batter over the meat and cheese in the pie plate.
Bake for 25 minutes or until pie is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
Top with remaining bacon and burger toppings such as tomatoes and lettuce.
Cut into wedges and serve immediately.
Notes
I use 90% lean ground beef. It has plenty of flavor but isn't overly greasy. If you choose to use a meat with higher fat content, be sure to drain off any excess grease.
This recipe works best in a deep dish 9 inch pie pan or a regular 10 inch pie pan. If you use a standard 9 inch pie pan it won't be large enough to hold all the batter.
I recommend using freshly grated cheese for this recipe.
